ENNIS, Texas - DALLAS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 24th annual O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

  Left Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.653/253.75, Now #4

  Best prior run: 5.913/199.88, Was #14

  Right Lane: Ro Yale Runs 7.410/132.37, Now #15

  Best prior run: 6.109/223.84, Was #15

1:58 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 82 degrees, relative humidity 60 percent, barometer 29.48 inches, adjusted altitude 2,908 feet, track temperature 116 degrees.

Yale gets out of the groove, drifts to the left, then backs off the throttle about 700 feet out. Moats makes a good run, his quickest of the weekend, and he moves up to the fourth spot.

  Right Lane: S. Gasparrelli Runs 5.700/255.68, Now #8

  Best prior run: 5.759/252.95, Was #12

Two good looking passes, both right down the middle of the lanes. McKnight makes his quickest pass of the weekend and moves up three notches, Gasparrelli moves up to the eighth spot.

  Left Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 18.659/41.11, Now #14

  Best prior run: 5.760/251.39, Was #14

  Right Lane: Burl Brown Runs 5.789/249.03, Now #13

  Best prior run: 5.747/236.05, Was #13

Ray gets about 400 feet out and clicks it off. Brown makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

  Right Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 5.766/249.81, Now #12

  Best prior run: 5.746/249.53, Was #12

Kinsley goes right down the groove with a decent pass but doesn't improve.

  Left Lane: Thomas Carter Runs 11.102/74.98, Now #7

  Best prior run: 5.680/254.62, Was #7

  Right Lane: Steve Burck Runs 5.713/249.44, Now #10

  Best prior run: 5.723/248.61, Was #10

Carter rattles the tires off the line, heads toward the center line, then backs off the throttle. no problems for Burck, right down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend.

  Left Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.726/252.14, Now #6

  Best prior run: 5.678/253.80, Was #6

  Right Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 6.040/195.70, Now #9

  Best prior run: 5.704/255.19, Was #9

Jones was on a decent pass but had problems late in the run. DeJoria makes a clean pass but doesn't improve.

  Right Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 9.385/90.38, Now #3

  Best prior run: 5.643/256.50, Was #3

Callaway rattles the tires off the line and clicks it off about 300 feet out.

  Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.626/257.73, Now #1

  Best prior run: 5.551/259.46, Was #1

  Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 9.276/92.96, Now #2

  Best prior run: 5.578/257.97, Was #2

Payne gets out of the groove, drifts to the left but never backs off the throttle. Harker gets about 300 feet out and has traction problems.

5:38 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.40 inches, adjusted altitude 3,307 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

This is a re-match of the final round at this event in '05, Gasparrelli winning that one.

Different race, same result. Jones gets out of the gate first but Gasparrelli wastes no time driving by Jones. Gasparrelli drives around Jones and increases his lead at every marker.

Burck gets off the line first and makes a move to the right. Carter gets out about 200 feet and starts moving to the left. They both get the cars under control, steering them back in the groove, then Carter starts to make up ground. The difference at the line is too much too make up for Carter and Burck hangs on for the win.

Steve Burck's incremental margins: 60ft(0.038), 330 ft(0.126), 660ft(0.137), 1,000ft(0.124). MOV: 0.1031 seconds (approximately 38 feet).

McKnight gets off the line first but DeJoria pulls ahead before they reach the sixty foot mark. Mcknight gets out of the groove, makes a hard move to the left and takes out the half-track cones. He gets close to DeJoria, then pulls in behind her for a moment before crossing back over and taking out the 1000 foot cones.

This is Lombardo's second national event. He made it to the second round in his first.....and now his second. Kinsley is really late off the line, then Lombardo pulls away increasing his lead all the way through the run.

This is the 14th time Moats has raced at this event in Ennis, Brown's ninth.

Moats is really late off the line, starts to make up ground, but can't get close.brown gets out to a huge lead and hangs on for the win.

lombardo will have lane choice over Brown in round two.

Not sure what is going on here, three reaction times over .200 in a row. Callaway gets out to a big lead and pulls away for the win.,p>DeJoria will have lane choice over Callaway in round two.

This is yale's second national event start, Houston being the first....and his day ends here. They have problems getting the engine to start and are unable to make a pass. Harker goes right down the groove with his second quickest pass of the weekend to take the win.

Harker will have lane choice over Burck in round two.

Payne won this event in '04 and was the runner-up last year.

Payne hits the throttle, starts rattling the tires, gets out of the groove and backs off the throttle. He coasts for a few feet then gets back on the throttle. he will give up lane choice to Gasparrelli in the next round.
