ENNIS, Texas - DALLAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol
Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 24th annual
O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals presented by
Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed,
and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Jimmy Jones No Time, Now #
12:18 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative
humidity 48 percent, barometer 29.57 inches, adjusted altitude 2,079
feet, track temperature 101 degrees.
Jones completes his burnout, prepares to stage, then is shut down
because of a fluid leak
Left Lane: Thomas Carter Runs
5.680/254.62, Now #1
Right Lane: Ro Yale Runs 8.139/112.26,
Now #2
Carter gets out of the groove, makes a move
toward the centerline, then gets it under control and goes on through
with a decent pass. Yale has problems about 300 feet out and the car
noses over.
Left Lane: Jason McKnight Runs 6.195/224.66, Now #3
Right Lane: Lee Callaway Runs 5.643/256.50, Now #1
McKnight makes a move to the right, back to the left, then gets it
back in the groove. Callaway goes right down the groove with a career
best pass to take the early pole.
Left Lane: Keeter Ray Runs 5.760/251.39, Now #4
Right Lane: Burl Brown Runs 5.747/236.05, Now #3
Brown drifts a little to the left, then back to the right, but never
backs off the throttle and gets in the third spot for now. Ray goes
right down the middle of the groove and gets in the fourth spot for now.
Left Lane: J. Lombardo Jr. Runs 5.673/251.30, Now #2
Right Lane: Steve Burck Runs 5.723/248.61, Now #4
Left Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.678/253.80, Now #3
Right Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 5.749/250.78, Now #7
DeJoria skates around early in the run but stays on the throttle and
makes a decent pass. Kinsley keeps it in the middle of the groove and
gets in the seventh spot for now.
Left Lane: Vern Moats Runs 26.088/29.73, Now #12
Right Lane: S. Gasparrelli Runs 12.539/64.77, Now #11
Moats hits the throttle, rattles the tires hard and clicks it off
early. Gasparelli had problems at half track and had to back off the throttle.
Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.551/259.46, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.598/257.14, Now #2
Two good looking passes here, both right down the groove and they
take the top two spots to end the session

because of a fluid leak. He makes a decent pass here and gets in the

Gasparrelli gets out of the groove about 200 feet out, makes a move
toward the wall, then gets it under control and goes on through with
a decent pass. Moats drifts to the left about 200 feet out but is
able to get it back in the groove and moves up a couple of notches on
the ladder.
